Riverside

The family home situated on Riverside Drive in Lower Hutt was the first location where artworks began to be created. Riverside is in the suburb of Waiwhetu, along the Eastern Hills of the Hutt Valley, north of Wellington, New Zealand. The hills are covered in scrub bush, and the house was situated on the banks of the Waiwhetu Stream, with beautiful willow trees lining it.

A simple easel in my bedroom with paint tubes from a dresser drawer. From never having painted on canvas before, to purchasing canvas boards, through to making my own canvases, these formative years built my skills and knowledge of creating paintings.

These are the beginnings of everything: experimentation, creating artworks on canvas for the first time, and finding your style. The range of painting style and direction varies greatly at this location as I began to find my feet.
