Murderer’s Bay; First European contact with Aotearoa


Murderer’s Bay is the location of a slaughter of sorts as an attack on European ships that had come to visit the new land of Aotearoa. Find out more about the story here
As Turner painted historical events and disasters of his time for historical reference, I decided to do the same for my own history as a New Zealander. After finishing this painting, I realised that it was time to extend this style by using Oil paints, though I am still very proud of this piece in Acrylics. This quite possibly is my favourite painting, and I’m a bit upset that it sold.
