Anniversary

Today Vicky surprised me with a beautiful card she wrote for our 2 years and 8 month anniversary. We don’t usually celebrate monthly ones like this, and if I were completely honest, I didn’t even know it was the 17th today – such is the nature of holidays!

But it reminded me of her growing love for me. Something I find reflected in this photo.

To the Bone

16/07/09

So today I didn’t quite play my fingers to the bone on my new guitar. But I do love it. Such a rich sound – and I can’t wait to try it out all plugged in and everything at church. Hopefully it will add an extra dimension to worship.

Walden

The guitar arrived today!

I went in to the store.
I came out of the store.
I went home with a new guitar!

Walden, Fender, or Takamine

20090714

Today I went shopping with Vicky for a new Acoustic/Electric guitar. After being inspired by Sons of Korah, Henry Seely, and lately Shooting Stars, I decided I needed an upgrade from my SX – which whilst was Acoustic/Electric, didn’t have a preamp in it – just volume and tone.

The whole process took about an hour, looking at different guitars, trying them, trying them again, compaing and wondering.
The one I liked most was the Walden, except that it had gold heads and white trim, which just looked garish. But I asked if they could get one in without those – and the shop assistant said sure thing and that it’d arrive towards the end of the week. Hopefully it’ll arrive and I can go in and make a final decision on it…

Can’t wait!

Dessert

13/07/09

Nothing I like more than caramel. Its to die for sometimes. If you want to bribe me in some horrendous way, then caramel is the way to go. Luckily for me, this was just dessert tonight. Enjoyable dessert.

Watching

12/07/09

Today Vicky and I chilled out after the morning service at church and watched a couple of movies. Movies wouldn’t be right without some kind of snack… and just look at what she did to poor little Freddo. He lost his sight.

Don’t walk blindly into the future. Ask God to reveal it to you, so that you may make better judgement of it for yourself. At the end of the day, this life is a faith journey – and faith is the evidence of things unseen.

Lake Wairarapa

_MG_5593

Today Vicky and I headed out into the countryside to Lake Wairarapa, about an hours drive north of Wellington.

A few years back I had done a tramp over the Rimutaka Incline, and walked down the road along the lakeside, before heading back over the ranges to Mt Matthews and Catchpoole. That was until I broke my arm.

But driving along that river brought back memories of a great time with friends. We stopped for lunch at the rest area where had camped a night.

It was so still.

Peaceful.

Beautiful.

Morning Light

10/07/09

This morning I decided to head out early to get a few morning shots. I headed up the River Road towards Upper Hutt. There are a few good spots along there that are almost too good to be postcards!
Whilst I was getting a few of the clouds around the hills, the sun decided to poke its glorious head over the top of the hills. A beautiful reminder of God’s glory.
I managed to get quite a few photos, so these will feature in the next few days worth of photos.

Bag

9/07/09

Ever been shopping for a cat? Do they come in a box? Or a bag?
I guess Gordon was feeling left out in that she wasn’t purchased from a pet shop. She just adopted us…
Too good an opportunity not to take a photo!

Hmmm…

8/07/09

Lately I’ve been flicking through an old hymn book from our church – looking for inspiration from some more traditional songs. As I don’t know how the tune for most of them go, they are quite good to un-pack and use for lyrics to my own songs.

This is one I found and put to music for myself.

When this passing world is done,
When has sunk yon glaring sun,
When we stand with Christ on high,
Looking o’er life’s history,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,
Not till then, how much I owe.

When I stand before the throne,
Dressed in beauty not my own,
When I see Thee as Thou art,
Love Thee with unsinning heart,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know
Not till then, how much I owe.

When the praise of heaven I hear
Loud as thunders to the ear,
Deep as many waters’ noise,
Sweet as harp’s melodious voice,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know
Not till then, how much I owe.

E’en on earth, as through a glass,
Darkly let Thy glory pass;
Make forgiveness feel so sweet;
Make Thy Spirit’s help so meet;
E’en on earth, Lord, make me know,
Something of how much I owe.

R. M. McCheyne, 1813-1843.

Gleam

7/07/09

Tonight the moon was gleaming like I’ve never seen it before. It shone out across the hills and it was worth setting up the tripod to get the shot.

I think the moon is quite underrated…
So often we marvel at the importance of the sun, but very seldom do we acknowledge the moon, except for the Moon landing conspiracies…
So next time you’re walking in the dark, and the street lights fail to provide enough light, yet you can still see in front of you… Give thanks to God for the moon.

Curled

6/07/09

Two of the most beautiful things in the world curled up together.

One. My Girlfriend. Vicky.

Two. My adopted cat Gordon. Its amazing how she has fitted into my life after Flash leaving. Not so much as to replace him, but enough to be good company.
