I am an artist. Though more specifically a painter, just so I don't get lumped in with those people who use art as an excuse for stupidity.
I am a web-designer. Every now and then I pull out the laptop and write a few hundred lines of code.
I am a Christian. A Christ follower. Enough said.

"Art reflects the world around us. It is for that reason that I create. I do not see my art as paint on canvas, but a revelation into a new way of seeing things. Through my art I hope to seek out these truths which have since been forgotten and display it in a way which people can relate to. Art crosses the boundaries from real world to the imagination, a connection that many of us wish to see, but never able to recreate."
- Al Ingham (2007)
"I've lived in Lower Hutt all my life. I've traveled into Wellington every day since high school and so the harbor and its surrounding landscape has a huge influence on my work. I've been painting for about four years.
This work [Idealistic Series, 2004] brings up issues about all New Zealanders and how, if we are to be united, some rules have to be broken; and this then becomes idealistic."
- Al Ingham, CrossOver Exhibtion, 2005
There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun.
- Pablo Picasso
Ralph Hotere once said, "No object and certainly no painting, is seen in the same way by everyone, yet most people want an unmistakable meaning which is accessible to all in a work of art" (1973). He continues, "It is the spectator which provokes the change and meanings in these works."..."The words and forms within the paintings should be sufficient for the audience without the need for critical or theoretical intervention"
To some extent I agree. My works don't need any explanation as to their meanings because often their meaning is right there in front of you - be it with the form or even as blatant as the words across the canvas.
I am a Lower Hutt painter working out of home. I exhibit only a few times a year due to lack of time with the other things in my life.
I'm currently working through a couple of series. One is my Black cube series which is a body of work focussed around direct drawing of the landscape, with a heavy influence of the Maori language and New Zealand.
The other body of work is a return to the old way of painting I used to do, looking still and landscapes but in a more realistic sense.
